Question
If a police officer asks patrons for their GP in order to fine those who do not have it, what should be done?
Answer
First of all, the patron must NEVER say 'I do not have the GP', because otherwise they could be fined.
The patron must respond as follows: 'I am not showing you my GP, because I have already been checked by the manager at the entrance to the premises; you do not have the right to carry out this check because, under the rules, the person tasked with this verification is the venue manager, not the police.'
However, if the police officer asks us to identify ourselves, we must show them our identity document, but not the GP.
The police officer theoretically could not fine us; if they decided to do so anyway, with the usual €400 fine, this would be “flawed” from the outset and we will react in the usual way, as described in the section "Topics" --> "The basics to know"
